How to Cut Glass Bottles With a Dremel

Materials and tools:

* Safety goggles

* Dust mask

* Disposable gloves

* Dremel rotary tool with diamond cutting wheel OR glass/tile cutting blade

* Glass bottle

* Permanent marker

* Ruler

* Pliers

* Newspaper

* Bucket of water

Instructions:

1. Prepare your workspace. Put some newspaper down to catch the glass shards. This will also help protect your work surface.

2. Wear safety goggles, a mask, and gloves. The dust from cutting glass can be harmful, so it's important to take safety precautions.

3. Score the bottle. Place a piece of masking tape on the bottle where you want to make your cut. This will help keep the glass from chipping. Use the permanent marker to draw a line on the tape where you want to cut. Then use the Dremel tool with the diamond cutting wheel to score the glass along the line. Make multiple passes, gradually deepening the score line until you feel it reach about halfway through the glass.

4. Snap the bottle. Once the score line is deep enough, you can snap the bottle. To do this, hold the bottle in both hands with your thumbs on the score line and gently bend it in opposite directions until it breaks.

5. Sand the edges of glass bottle. Once you’ve snapped the bottle in half, use the Dremel tool with the sanding bit to smooth out the sharp edges of the glass. This will help prevent injuries and make the glass pieces safer to handle.

6. Dispose of the glass shards. After you're finished cutting the glass, be sure to dispose of the shards properly. Wrap them in newspaper and put them in the trash.

Tips:

* If you're having trouble scoring the glass, try using a different cutting wheel or blade.

* Be patient. It takes some practice to get good at cutting glass bottles with a Dremel tool.

* Don't be afraid to experiment with different techniques. There's no one right way to do it.
