How to Remove the Soleplate of an Iron

The soleplate on a clothes iron can get dirty, stained or clogged with mineral deposits, dried starch, or substances that are picked up from clothes. While there are several methods you can use to clean an iron soleplate, it may occasionally be necessary to remove the soleplate entirely. For instance, removing the soleplate may be necessary, if the soleplate needs to be repaired or replaced. Note that children should never handle or repair an iron.

Instructions

      Turn off and unplug the iron. Allow it to cool completely.

      Loosen the screws on the tip of the soleplate on each side. Turn the screws in a counterclockwise direction and set them aside in a safe location.

      Grab the soleplate with your fingers on each side and pull straight out firmly.

      Disconnect any wires from the inside of the iron.
