How to Remove Imprints From Leather

Leather is a durable, stylish and practical material for furniture, car seats, shoes and other clothing items. Leather is expensive, and you want your purchase to last a long time. An imprint in leather can be caused by the item being folded tightly or stored improperly or if something heavy is left on the leather long enough to cause a crease. If the imprinted area is not too deep or big, you can often remove the mark with humidity or heat.

Instructions

Hang up a creased leather article of clothing in the bathroom the next time you use the shower. Keep the bathroom door closed to hold in the steam. The humidity will relax the leather. Run your hands over the creased area, pulling gently to remove the imprint.

Plug your blow dryer into the electrical outlet nearest your creased furniture or large item. Use the hottest setting of the blow dryer to warm up the creased leather. Move the blow dryer continuously, and keep it at least 10 inches away from the leather. Smooth the leather with your free hand, working the crease to remove it.

Remove a crease from a leather jacket or other item with an iron. Cover the leather with a clean towel to protect it, then heat up the iron to the medium/warm setting. Set the iron flat on the wrinkled area, pressing through the towel. Hold the iron in place for a few seconds, then lift and check the leather. Repeat if the wrinkle remains. Do not hold the iron in place longer than five seconds at a time.
