How to Keep Fill in Comforters Soft When Drying

You use your comforter often, so it will require regular cleaning to remove dirt, skin cells and other soil. If you choose to clean your comforter at home instead of taking it to a professional, it’s important to dry it properly to keep the fill soft. Otherwise, the comforter may end up with the fill bunching, which can lead to moisture buildup in the fill and then the comforter will feel hard in certain spots.

Place the comforter in the dryer without other garments. Cramming other items with your comforter leaves little room for it to fluff and move around freely in the dryer.

    • 2

Put two tennis balls in the dryer with your comforter. The tennis balls help separate the fill as it dries, keeping it soft and fluffy.

    • 3

Stop the dryer every 30 minutes and take the comforter out. Fluff it with your hands and put it back in to continue drying.

    • 4

Allow the comforter to dry completely in the dryer. Taking it out while it’s still wet can lead to the fill bunching up, which makes the comforter hard.
