How to Apply Velvet to a Drawer

Whether you use your drawers to hold clothing, knickknacks or jewelry, a velvet lining adds elegance and utility to your storage. Velvet lining prevents jewelry from being scratched on raw wood and the traction prevents objects from sliding around in the drawer. It also creates a luxurious bed for your more fragile fabrics. You may choose to line all five sides of the drawer or to only line the bottom.

Empty the drawer and remove it from dresser.

    • 2

    • 3

Measure all the sides that you want to line with velvet.

    • 4

Cut out strips of velvet adhesive that correspond to the measurements that you took.

    • 5

Peel back the top edge of one the rectangles, separating the velvet from the non-adhesive backing by 1 inch.

    • 6

Press the adhesive side of the velvet to the corresponding side in the drawer, lining it up neatly to the corner.

    • 7

Peel the non-adhesive backing away, pressing the adhesive edge to the drawer surface, until the velvet covers the drawer.

    • 8

Repeat Steps 4 through 6 until drawer is completely lined.
