How to Recycle a Dish Network Dish

Dish Network satellite dishes can certainly be a problem when you cancel the service, because you are not required to return the dish to the company; it wants only the receivers. This policy leads to a number of dishes not being used, as evidenced by the many satellite dishes that can be seen at empty homes. There are ways to recycle your dish even though Dish Network won't take it. With a little creativity, you can repurpose that old dish in no time.

Donate your Dish Network satellite dish to Technology Recycling. The company accepts unused equipment and recycles it in the proper manner. To donate, go to its website and fill in the provided form. There are only four locations in the United.States, so select the pickup option unless you live near Orange, California; Little Rock, Arkansas; Houston, Texas; or Raleigh, North Carolina. This service is provided free of charge.

List your Dish Network satellite dish on CraigsList or eBay. If you list it on CraigsList, you can give it away or sell it for a nominal amount. Be aware, though, that few people are willing to pay for something that they can find fairly easy for free. Listing on eBay is allowed only if you charge for the dish, plus you must pay a small fee for the privilege of posting the item.

Offer your Dish Network satellite dish to your local Goodwill, Salvation Army or other charity. They might not want the dish, but it doesn't hurt to ask, because the decisions are made on a local basis.

Transform your Dish Network satellite dish into a birdbath or bird feeder. Remove the dish from the post, which will leave an open hole in the bottom. Fill in the hole with caulk or putty and allow it to dry. Drill four holes around the rim of the dish, at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock marks. Paint the dish in the desired color, then thread a thin chain through the holes. Hang the transformed dish where you want it, then fill it with water or food for the birds.

Create a work of art with your Dish Network satellite dish. The smooth surface of the dish can be painted using acrylic, latex or water-based paints. Sketch a design on the dish and fill it in with paint, or paint the design freehand. To display your artwork outdoors, you must seal the paint with polyurethane to protect it from the elements.
