Kitchen Organization Ideas for Plastic Bags

Plastic bags are easily acquired because many retail stores use them for packaging purchases. There are many ways to reuse the bags, which can help to save the environment, but they can accumulate quickly and overrun the kitchen. Storing plastic bags is a practical solution that keeps them out of the way but handy enough to access when needed.
  1. Retail Bag Holders

    • Plastic bag holders are sold in retail stores and come in a wide array of styles, sizes and designs. Some models are mounted on the inside of a cupboard or closet door, while others are affixed to the wall. Styles vary from simple bag holders to elaborate, multifunctional containers with an attached caddy for storing kitchen supplies such as gloves, sponges or cleaning supplies. White, black and stainless steel are just a few of the available color choices, making it easy to find one to match just about any kitchen decor.

    Fabric Bag Holder

    • A fabric bag holder can easily be crafted by anyone with a basic knowledge of crafts. Roll a piece of fabric into a cylinder shape and sew or glue the seam, leaving both ends open. Tie a piece of ribbon about 3 inches from the bottom of the tube, pulling it taught and narrowing the hole by at least half. The top hole should be left open so plastic bags can be placed inside. A handle can be attached to the top by looping a piece of ribbon on the inner part of the top opening and sewing or gluing it in place. Allow all glue to dry thoroughly before filling or hanging the holder.

    Decorative Bag Holder

    • Many items can be used to store plastic bags in the kitchen. Cookie jars, canisters, decorative tins or ceramic vases are just a few examples of items that can be re-purposed for plastic bag storage. Decorative items that match or complement the kitchen decor can be kept on a countertop to keep the bags readily accessible.

    Box Bag Holder

    • A shoe box or any size sturdy box can be converted for plastic bag storage. Begin by gluing the lid to the box to secure it in place. Cut a hole in the top of the box large enough to insert and remove the bags. Using gift wrap, fabric or wall paper, wrap the entire box, and cut out an area for the hole, tucking the ends underneath and securing them in place with glue. If desired, the box can be decorated with embellishments that coordinate with your kitchen decor.
