How to Remove Stickiness From Wood

A sugary beverage or food spilled on your wood furniture or hardwood floor results in a sticky substance that hardens if left untreated. Spilled food against hardwood floors and wood surfaces can damage the condition of the wood, as removing it once hardened can eat away at the wood finish. The key to eliminating sticky substances and maintaining the condition of your wood is cleaning up the accident as soon as it occurs to minimize wood damage.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe up as much of the sticky substance as possible with a dry cleaning cloth.

    • 2

Dampen a sponge with warm water. Squeeze the sponge to remove excess water.

    • 3

Scrub the sticky surface with the damp sponge in the direction of wood grain. Cleaning in the direction of the wood grain prevents accidental scratches while scrubbing.

    • 4

Wipe down the wood with a dry cloth to remove moisture from the surface.

    • 5

Spray the wood floor cleaning spray directly onto a clean, dry cloth. Rub the cloth onto the wood surface in the direction of the wood's grain to polish to wood and restore its natural shine.
