Feather beds were designed to place on top of your mattress. These luxurious beds are often quite expensive. They are made to conform to the shape of your body to provide a more comfortable sleep. Feather beds are investments that must be cared for efficiently and properly. Storing and cleaning your feather bed correctly will help it to last as long as possible.
Shake your feather bed gently and air it out for several hours. Before you place it on your mattress, drape it over a clothesline. This allows the feathers to fluff up.
Flip, fluff and rotate your feather bed on a regular basis to maintain even distribution of the feathers. If the distribution becomes uneven, place the feather bed on a flat surface and use your palms and forearms to push the feathers to the necessary areas.
Protect your feather bed from spills and stains by placing your feather bedding under a fitted sheet or bed protector. Clean the fitted sheet or bed protector whenever you wash the rest of your bedding.
Treat your feather bed like an extension of your mattress. Spot clean minor spills and soiling with a damp rag or sponge.
Dry your feather bed thoroughly if it becomes damp to avoid mildew or decomposition of the feather filling.
Take your feather bed to a dry cleaner if it becomes heavily soiled. Washing your feather bedding in the washing machine is normally not recommended by the manufacturer.
