How to Clean Heirlooms

Cleaning an heirloom can create a stressful situation. As heirlooms range in age, it is essential to use care when cleaning them. Consistently cleaning your heirloom will restore its beauty and shine. Keeping the heirloom at a consistent temperature of 70 degrees Fahrenheit will increase the life of your heirloom.

Things You'll Need

  • Anti-static duster
  • Cleaning detergent
  • Distilled water
  • Soft cloth
  • Cotton balls
  • Cotton diaper
  • Sponge

Instructions

  1. Cleaning and Care

    • 1

Dust the heirloom using an anti-static duster. Removal of dust can prevent scratching when cleaning the heirloom.

    • 2

Dilute cleaning detergent with distilled water. The solution should contain 99 percent water and one percent detergent.

    • 3

Moisten a soft cloth with the solution. Rub the heirloom with the cloth gently in a circular pattern.

    • 4

Replace the soft cloth with a cotton diaper. Cotton balls can be used as a replacement.

    • 5

Moisten the cotton diaper with distilled water and remove all of the detergent. Any detergent left behind can damage the heirloom.

    • 6

Wipe the heirloom with a sponge to remove excess water.
