How to Clean Rust Off of Blade Guards

If you clean the blade guards and take care of them, then your equipment can last you for years. You can make it as shiny as new. This will keep it in perfect cutting shape. The metal blade guards prevent and protect the hand from coming in contact with a spinning blade. Many kitchen items have blade guards on them, to prevent accidental cutting. But in course of time, it can gather rust, which needs to be removed. You can of course use soap and lukewarm water and clean with the help of a toothbrush. For more effective removal of rust, you can use different types of lubricants, depending on the use of the blade guards.

Instructions

      Secure the blade guards well vise grips and clamp it down well.

      Remove the top surface rust with the help of a wire brush, by rubbing up and down or throughout the length of the equipment.

      Spray the penetrating oil onto some sandpaper. Rub the sand paper all along the blades. Put a light pressure while applying in order to effectively remove the rust.

      Take a dry cloth and wipe clean. Next, apply the oil to steel wool and rub all along the blade guard till all the rust is removed. Don't rub too briskly, as this might scratch the metal.

      Add some metal polish to a piece of wet cloth and rub all along the blade. Take care not to go near the edge.
