How to Install a Security Safe

Security safes are used to keep important documents, jewelry, guns and other valuables secure. Safes are an excellent addition to any security system. Some types of safes are designed only for security, while others are fireproof and waterproof to protect from flooding and fires. Safes act as a deterrent for thieves because they are secured to the floor or wall in an inconspicuous or unusual place. Floor safes are the best and most common choice for residential buildings because they can be easily installed and removed later when moving.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a safe and decide on the location to attach it.

    • 2

Check beneath the floor area where safe will be bolted for pipes and other obstructions to be sure nothing will be damaged during the installation process. If the floor where you are installing the safe is carpeted, trim back some of the carpet to access the subfloor for easy and proper installation.

    • 3

Locate the mounting holes inside the safe. Put a pencil through the mounting holes to mark the floor where the bolt holes should be drilled.

    • 4

Use concrete or wood drill bit, depending on the mounting surface, to drill the holes into the floor.

    • 5

Place safe anchors into the drilled holes to help hold the safe securely in place.

    • 6

Line up the safe with the safe anchors and attach bolts and nuts. Tighten with a wrench.

    • 7

Add valuables to the safe and lock it up.
