1. Turn off the power. Before you begin wiring the switch, make sure that the power to the circuit is turned off. You can do this by flipping the circuit breaker to the "off" position or by removing the fuse from the fuse box.
2. Remove the old switch. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the old switch in place. Once the screws are removed, carefully pull the switch out of the switch box.
3. Prepare the wires. Strip about 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of the wires. Be careful not to nick or damage the wire strands.
4. Connect the wires. Connect the black wire from the switch to the black wire in the switch box. Connect the white wire from the switch to the white wire in the switch box. Connect the red wire from the switch to the red wire in the switch box.
5. Test the switch. Turn on the power to the circuit and test the switch to make sure that it is working properly. The switch should turn on the light when it is in the "on" position and turn off the light when it is in the "off" position.
6. Secure the switch. Use a screwdriver to secure the switch in place. Make sure that the screws are tight so that the switch does not come loose.
7. Replace the cover plate. Replace the cover plate over the switch.
- If you are not comfortable working with electrical wiring, you can hire an electrician to wire the switch for you.
- When connecting the wires, make sure that the bare copper wire is not exposed. This could create a shock hazard.
- Be careful not to overload the circuit. The switch can only handle a certain amount of wattage, so make sure that the light bulb you are using does not exceed the wattage limit.
- If you have any questions about wiring the switch, consult a professional electrician.
