Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Prepare the Hardwood

1. Ensure that the hardwood flooring is properly acclimated to the environment.

2. Cut the planks according to the desired dimensions using a miter or circular saw.

3. Sand the edges of the planks to remove any splinters or rough spots.

Step 2: Install the Underlayment

1. Start by rolling out the underlayment over the subfloor. Make sure that the underlayment is properly fitted and overlaps any joints.

2. If necessary, use a utility knife to trim any excess underlayment.

Step 3: Nail Down the Planks

1. Starting in a corner, place the first plank with the tongue facing outward. Make sure that the plank is flush with the wall.

2. Use the brad nailer to nail the plank into place. Drive the nails through the tongue and into the subfloor at an angle of approximately 45 degrees.

3. Repeat the previous step for the next plank, ensuring that the tongues and grooves are properly fitted together.

4. Continue nailing down the planks until the entire floor is covered.

Step 4: Trim the Excess Plank

1. Trim the last plank in each row to ensure that it fits snugly against the wall. Use a miter saw or circular saw to make the cut.

2. Nail the trimmed plank into place.

Step 5: Check the Installation

1. Walk across the floor to check for any loose or squeaking planks. If you find any, nail them down more securely.

2. Inspect the seams between the planks to make sure that they are properly closed.

Step 6: Apply the Finish

1. Allow the nails to set for at least 24 hours before applying the finish.

2. Apply the desired finish to the floor according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Once the finish has dried, your engineered hardwood floor will be ready to enjoy!
