Take pictures of the rooms where the new flooring will go. Make sure there is adequate light. Take the photos to a home improvement or flooring store.
Look at the various choices and decide on the type of hardwood flooring you want. This will narrow down your color options somewhat.
Hold your pictures next to the various floorings to see what goes best with your furnishings and wall colors. Narrow your color choices to three or four and select samples of these, based on the style of your home and furnishings. For example, both maple and dark wood look stylish in a contemporary home. Rustic and warm colors can look handsome in older homes.
Take the samples home and lay them down on the floor. Move them near the furniture and walls to see how they complement each other. Select the one that you like best.
