How to Make a Floor-Mounted Stool

Stools are an effective seating option in any area of your home. In some cases you may desire to mount the stool to the floor. This is ideal in areas where it could get knocked over, such as in a workshop space or in a child’s room.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand the 2-by-2-by-16-inch boards upright on a work surface with the 2-by-2-inch ends resting flat. Configure the boards so that they form the corners of a square. Space the boards 9 inches apart from the inside edges. These are the legs for the floor-mounted stool.

    • 2

Center a 3/4-by-12-by-12-inch plywood panel over the top ends of the legs. This is the seat for the floor-mounted stool. Drive two evenly spaced trim head wood screws through each corner of the seat into the top ends of the legs with a screw gun.

    • 3

Insert one 2-by-2-by-9-inch board between the bottom ends of each leg board. The 2-by-9-inch side of each board should be flush against the work surface. The 2-by-2-inch ends should be flush against the inside sides of the legs. These are the leg support boards for the floor-mounted stool.

    • 4

Drive two evenly spaced trim head wood screws through the outside of each leg into the ends of the leg support boards to complete the floor-mounted stool assembly.

    • 5

Spray an even coat of lacquer onto the surface of the stool assembly. Allow the lacquer to dry at least four hours and apply a second coat. Wait 24 hours after the second coat before continuing with the project.

    • 6

Locate the stool in the desired location on the floor. Drive trim head wood screws through the leg supports into the floor every 2 inches to mount the stool to the floor.
