How to Repair Shutter Doors

Shutter doors provide aesthetics to the exterior of a home and are useful in repelling bright sun, wind and heavy rain or hail. Over the coarse of time, with continuous exposure to weather elements, shutter doors can sag, preventing them from closing properly or closing at all. This is due to the weight of the doors placed on the hinges. To remedy this particular situation, you just need to replace the shutter door hinges.

Instructions

  Open your shutters as far as possible to gain access to the hinges.

  Unfasten the mounting screws in the hinges with a screw gun.

  Slide a putty knife between the hinges and the wall to pop the hinges free from the wall and pull-off the shutter doors.

  Set the shutter doors on a workbench or table.
- 5
  Unfasten the screws holding the hinges against the shutter doors with a screw gun.
- 6
  Slip the blade of your putty knife between the hinges and the shutter doors, prying the old hinges off the shutters.

  Hold replacement hinges against the shutter doors, aligning the holes in the hinges with the holes in the shutters.

  Drive stainless steel screws into the shutters through the hinges with your screw gun.

  Hold the shutter doors against the exterior wall in the window and align the holes in the walls with the holes in the hinges.
- 10
  Drive stainless steel screws through the hinge holes, into the holes in the exterior wall using your screw gun. Close and open the shutter doors to ensure they open and close properly.
