- A heat gun or hair dryer
- A plastic razor blade or scraper
- A spray bottle filled with soapy water
- A towel
- A helper (optional)
Prepare the car:
1. Park the car in a shady spot to avoid overheating the windows.
2. Roll down the windows about an inch to allow air to circulate.
3. If you have a helper, have them sit in the car and operate the power windows.
Remove the tint:
1. Start by heating up a small section of the window with the heat gun or hair dryer. Hold the heat source about 6 inches away from the window and move it back and forth until the tint begins to bubble and peel.
2. Once the tint starts to peel, use the plastic razor blade or scraper to carefully scrape it off. Be careful not to scratch the window glass.
3. Continue heating and scraping until all of the tint has been removed.
4. Spray the window with soapy water and wipe it clean with a towel.
Remove any adhesive residue:
1. If there is any adhesive residue left on the window, use a commercial adhesive remover to remove it.
2. Be sure to follow the directions on the adhesive remover label carefully.
Reconnect the rear defroster:
1. If you disconnected the rear defroster wires, reconnect them now.
2. Test the rear defroster to make sure it is working properly.
Tips:
- If you are having difficulty removing the tint, you may need to use a stronger heat source. Be careful not to overheat the window glass.
- If you are worried about damaging the rear defroster, you can use a heat-resistant tape to protect it.
- If you are not comfortable removing the tint yourself, you can take your car to a professional window tinting shop.
