Materials:
- Fabric of your choice (such as cotton canvas, denim, or cotton blend)
- Coordinating thread
- Scissors or rotary cutter
- Measuring tape
- Iron
- Sewing machine
- Safety pins
- Dowel or wooden rod
- Leather cord or rope (optional)
Instructions:
1. Measure and Cut the Fabric:
- Cut two rectangular pieces of fabric for the front and back of the organizer. The size depends on your desired dimensions, but a common size is approximately 24 inches wide by 36 inches tall.
- Cut a piece of fabric for the pockets. Again, the size is customizable. A common pocket size is 12 inches wide by 6 inches tall, and you'll need multiple pockets based on your organizer design.
2. Create the Pockets:
- Hem the top edge of each pocket piece by folding down the edge about 1/2 inch and ironing it flat.
- Stitch along the hemmed edge to secure it in place.
3. Attach the Pockets to the Front Fabric Piece:
- Lay out the front fabric piece with the right side facing up.
- Arrange the pockets on the front fabric, spacing them evenly.
- Pin the pockets in place, ensuring that the hemmed edges are facing up.
- Stitch along the upper edge of each pocket, attaching it to the front fabric.
4. Sew the Organizer Together:
- Place the front and back fabric pieces together with the right sides facing each other.
- Pin along the edges, leaving the top edge open.
- Stitch along the pinned edges, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance, to sew the organizer together.
- Leave a 3-4 inch gap in one of the side seams for turning the organizer right side out.
5. Trim and Turn:
- Trim the corners of the organizer, being careful not to cut through the stitches.
- Turn the organizer right side out through the opening you left in the side seam.
- Gently push out the corners to give it a nice shape.
6. Close the Opening:
- Fold under the raw edges of the opening and pin them together.
- Stitch along the edges to close the opening.
7. Add the Dowel or Wooden Rod:
- Cut a piece of dowel or wooden rod to your desired length. It should be slightly shorter than the width of the organizer.
- Insert the dowel or rod through the upper edge of the organizer, leaving about 1-2 inches of space between the edges and the rod.
- If desired, you can add leather cord or rope to the ends of the rod for hanging.
8. Hang and Enjoy:
- Hang your organizer on the wall using the leather cord or rope.
- Add your favorite items to the pockets to keep your space organized!
