Building a concrete pedestal is a permanent option that provides excellent stability for the most common sizes of hot tubs. If you're planning to install your hot tub on your deck, you can build the pedestal directly onto the deck's surface.
1. Dig the foundation. The first step is to dig the holes for your pedestal footings. The depth and width of the footings will depend on the size of the hot tub and your deck's construction. For a typical hot tub, you'll need four holes that are 18 inches deep and 12 inches wide.
2. Install the rebar. Once the holes are dug, you need to install the rebar. Rebar is a steel rod that helps reinforce the concrete and prevent cracking. Place three pieces of rebar in each hole, spaced evenly apart.
3. Pour the concrete. Next, you need to pour the concrete. Mix the concrete according to the instructions on the bag, then pour it into the holes around the rebar. Be sure to vibrate the concrete to remove any air bubbles.
4. Level the concrete. Use a level to make sure the concrete is level before it dries.
5. Allow the concrete to cure. Allow the concrete to cure fully for at least 28 days before you build the pedestal frame or install the hot tub.
Option 2: Deck-mounted hot tub base
Deck-mounted hot tub bases are pre-made structures that provide support for hot tubs of all shapes and sizes. These bases are typically made from wood or metal and are designed to be installed on top of your deck surface.
1. Assemble the base. The first step is to assemble the base according to the manufacturer's instructions.
2. Place the base on the deck. Once the base is assembled, you need to place it on the deck in the desired location. Make sure the base is level and secure.
3. Install the hot tub. Lower the hot tub onto the base and connect the necessary plumbing.
