How to Make a Fiberglass Snow Rake

Snow is heavier than most people think --- 1 cubic foot of it can weigh up to 30 pounds if it is old and compacted, making it heavy enough to damage a roof and, in some cases, even cave a roof in. Water from melting snow can also damage a roof. Homeowners living in areas with heavy snowfall prevent this damage from happening by using snow rakes, also known as roof rakes, to clear the snow from their roofs.

Things You'll Need

  • 3 foot pine board
  • Fiberglass extension pole
  • 2 3-inch bolts, nuts and washers
  • 2 2-inch bolts and nuts
  • 2 brackets
  • Drill
  • Measuring tape

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the pine board with the measuring tape to find the middle, then mark it with a pencil.

    • 2

Place the fiberglass pole in the middle of the board, then position the two brackets on either side of the pole. Remove the pole, then drill two holes through the brackets. Screw bolts through the board, then cap them with washers and nuts.

    • 3

Place the pole back between the brackets. Drill through the bracket's holes as well as the pole, then screw nuts on the end of the bolts.
