How to Install Shingles on a Curved Roof

Step 1: Prep the Roof Deck

1. Make sure the roof deck is clean, dry, and free of any debris.

2. Install underlayment, such as a synthetic roofing underlayment or felt paper, to protect the roof deck from water damage.

3. Cut the underlayment to fit the dimensions of the roof deck, and staple it in place.

Step 2: Install Flashing

1. Install flashing around all roof penetrations, such as chimneys and skylights, to prevent water from leaking into the roof.

2. Cut the flashing to fit the dimensions of the penetrations, and nail it in place.

3. Caulk around the edges of the flashing to ensure a watertight seal.

Step 3: Install Drip Edge

1. Install drip edge along the eaves and rakes of the roof to prevent water from dripping behind the shingles.

2. Cut the drip edge to fit the dimensions of the eaves and rakes, and nail it in place.

3. Caulk around the edges of the drip edge to ensure a watertight seal.

Step 4: Install Starter Shingles

1. Install starter shingles along the eaves of the roof, overlapping the drip edge by about 1 inch.

2. Cut the starter shingles to fit the dimensions of the eaves, and nail them in place.

3. Caulk around the edges of the starter shingles to ensure a watertight seal.

Step 5: Begin Shingling

1. Start shingling at the bottom of the roof and work your way up.

2. Overlap each shingle by about 6 inches, and stagger the joints between the shingles.

3. Nail each shingle in place with four nails, two near the top of the shingle and two near the bottom.

4. Continue shingling until you reach the top of the roof.

Step 6: Install Ridge Shingles

1. Install ridge shingles along the peak of the roof, overlapping the shingles on either side by about 4 inches.

2. Cut the ridge shingles to fit the dimensions of the peak, and nail them in place.

3. Caulk around the edges of the ridge shingles to ensure a watertight seal.

Step 7: Clean Up

1. Clean up any debris from the roof.

2. Inspect the roof to make sure all of the shingles are properly installed and that there are no leaks.

3. Enjoy your new roof!

Tips for Installing Shingles on a Curved Roof

* Use a chalk line to mark the locations of the starter shingles and the ridge shingles.

* Be careful not to overtighten the nails, as this can cause the shingles to crack.

* Use a utility knife to cut the shingles to size.

* Wear safety glasses and gloves to protect yourself from injury.

* If you are not comfortable working on a roof, you should hire a professional to install your shingles.
