Turn off the power at the circuit for the Cal Spa. In most setups, there will be a separate, outside circuit breaker for the spa wiring. Flip the switch to the "off" setting.
Remove the paneling from the side of the spa beneath the control panel using a screwdriver. Roll the insulation back to reveal the pump and other fixtures inside.
Unplug the pump from the spa control panel. The pump is about 1 to 1 1/2 feet long and cylindrically shaped. An inlet and outlet connect it to the rest of the spa plumbing. Follow the pump plug to where it meets the spa control panel. Pull the plug out of the control panel.
Loosen the ground screw terminal for the pump using the screwdriver. Pull the bare copper ground wire off the pump.
Look for the shutoff valves on the pump inlet and outlet pipes. Turn these to the right to cut the water flow for the pump.
Loosen the inlet and outlet couplings with your hands or a pair of channel lock pliers. Some water may spill out, which is normal.
Loosen the bolts at the base of the pump with a wrench. Remove the pump from the Cal Spa by lifting it up and pulling it out of the spa body.
