How Do I Replace an American Standard Bathroom Faucet Cartridge?

Tools:

- Screwdriver

- Adjustable Wrench

- Cartridge Puller

- Replacement Cartridge

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Turn Off Water Supply:

Locate the water supply valves under the sink and turn them clockwise to shut off the water supply to the faucet.

2. Drain Water from Faucet:

Turn on the faucet to drain any residual water.

3. Remove Faucet Handle:

Use a screwdriver to remove the screws securing the faucet handle.

NOTE: Depending on your faucet model, you may need to use an Allen wrench instead of a screwdriver.

4. Remove Cartridge Retainer:

Look for a retaining clip or collar holding the cartridge in place.

Carefully remove it using a flat-head screwdriver or pliers.

5. Remove Cartridge:

Some American Standard faucets use a cartridge puller. If your faucet has one, insert it into the cartridge assembly and turn it counterclockwise to loosen and remove the cartridge.

If your faucet doesn't have a puller, you'll need to pry out the cartridge using an adjustable wrench.

6. Clean Faucet Body:

Take the opportunity to clean the faucet body before installing a new cartridge.

Remove any dirt or debris from the threads or surrounding areas.

7. Apply Lubricant:

Put a small amount of faucet grease on the new cartridge's O-rings or sealing surfaces. This helps ensure smooth operation and prevents premature leaks.

8. Insert New Cartridge:

Carefully align the splines of the new cartridge with the faucet body and start threading it in clockwise until it's snug.

9. Secure Cartridge:

Replace the cartridge retainer or retaining clip you removed earlier to hold the cartridge in place.

10. Reinstall Handle:

Align the faucet handle with the cartridge stem, slide it back into place, and secure it with the screws you removed earlier.

11. Turn on Water Supply:

Slowly open the water supply valves under the sink to restore water flow to the faucet.

12. Test the Faucet:

Turn on the faucet to check if it's working correctly and there are no leaks.

If everything is in order, you've successfully replaced the American Standard bathroom faucet cartridge.
