How to Remove Paint From Concrete With Muriatic Acid

Safety Precautions

* Muriatic acid is a corrosive and dangerous chemical.

* Wear safety glasses, gloves, and a long-sleeved shirt when working with it.

* Work in a well-ventilated area.

* Keep muriatic acid away from children and pets.

Materials Needed

* Muriatic acid

* Water

* A bucket

* A stiff brush

* A pressure washer (optional)

Instructions

1. Prepare the concrete surface. Remove any loose paint with a scraper. Sweep the surface to remove any dirt or debris.

2. Mix the muriatic acid and water. The ratio of acid to water will depend on the severity of the paint stain. For a light stain, use a mixture of 1:10 acid to water. For a heavy stain, use a mixture of 1:5 acid to water.

3. Apply the muriatic acid solution to the concrete surface. Use a stiff brush to work the solution into the stain. Let the solution sit for 10-15 minutes.

4. Scrub the concrete surface. Use a stiff brush to scrub the surface in a circular motion. This will help to loosen the paint and remove any residual muriatic acid.

5. Rinse the concrete surface. Rinse the surface with a garden hose until all the muriatic acid has been removed.

6. Apply a sealant to the concrete surface. This will help to protect the concrete from future stains.

Tips

* If you have a pressure washer, you can use it to remove the paint instead of a scrub brush.

* Be patient when removing paint from concrete. It may take some time to completely remove the stain.

* If the paint stain is particularly stubborn, you may need to repeat the process several times.
