How to Paint Pour Rocks & Stones

### How to Paint Pour Rocks

---

1. Gather your supplies. This project is easy and only requires a few supplies:

- Acetone

- Cotton swabs

- Disposable cups or bowls

- Plastic wrap

- Acrylic paints in various colors

- A spoon

- Rocks

- Toothpicks

- String (optional)

2. Clean your rocks. First, wash the rocks with dish soap and water. This is important to clean any dirt or debris that may be on the rocks, which could prevent the paint from adhering properly. Some people also take a wire brush to the rocks to rough them up a little bit. Once they've been washed, make sure to let the rocks dry completely.

3. Apply a base coat. This is optional, but it can help the paint pour better. Some people use a base coat of white or light-colored paint, but you can also use any color you like. Just make sure to let the base coat dry completely before moving on to the next step.

4. Prepare your paints. Pour one or more colors of acrylic paint into disposable cups or bowls. Add a few drops of water to each cup to thin the paint. You don't want the paint to be too thick, because it can be difficult to control when you pour it. Add more water if necessary until you reach the desired consistency. Some people like to add a little bit of pouring medium to their paint as well, which can help to create cells and other interesting patterns in the paint. However, this is not necessary.

5. Create your design. Hold the rock or stone in one hand and the cup of paint in the other. Start to slowly pour the paint onto the rock. You don't need to be precise, just let the paint flow onto the rock in random patterns. You can use one color at a time, or you can combine different colors to create a more interesting design.

6. Use a toothpick to guide the paint. If you want to create more detailed patterns, you can use a toothpick to guide the paint as you pour it. You can also use the toothpick to create dots, lines, and other shapes in the paint.

7. Cover the rocks with plastic wrap. This will help to prevent the paint from drying too quickly. Let the rocks sit for at least 30 minutes, or until the paint is completely dry.

8. Seal the rocks. This is optional, but it can help to protect the paint and make the rocks more durable. I like to use a clear acrylic spray sealant. Just make sure to follow the directions on the can.

9. Add a string. If you want to hang your rocks, you can add a string. Just hot glue a loop of string to the back of each rock.

Your painted rocks are now ready to enjoy! You can display them on a windowsill, in a garden, or anywhere you like. They also make great gifts for friends and family.

Tips:

- If the paint is too thick, it can be difficult to control when you pour it. Add a few drops of water to thin the paint.

- If the paint is too thin, it can run off the rocks. Add a little bit of paint to thicken the paint.

- Be creative! There are no rules when it comes to painting rocks. Just let your imagination run wild and have fun.
