Read the temperature instructions on the paint container. Latex paint does not dry properly if the temperature is too hot or too cold. The temperature in the room needs to stay within the recommended range in order for the paint to cure
Properly prepare the surface before painting. Latex paint does not adhere well to a surface that is not clean and primed. Clean the surface with warm water and a mild detergent to remove dirt and grime. Allow the surface to thoroughly dry before priming.
Wait for each coat of paint to dry before applying another coat. It usually takes two coats of latex paint to achieve a professional looking paint job. It is essential that the first coat is completely dry before applying the second. If the first coat is not completely dry, moisture is trapped in the paint with the second coat. This prevents the top coat from drying properly.
Set up fans in the room after painting. Latex paint dries better in rooms with air circulation and ventilation. Set up a dehumidifier in the room if the room has a humidity problem.
Leave interior and exterior doors partially open during the curing process. Sticky doors are the most common problem with latex paint. This is because the doors are not allowed to properly dry before they are closed.
Wipe tacky surfaces with an auto paste or auto wax. Auto paste or wax helps to remove tackiness from the painted surface.
