How to Get Paint and Float Mud Off Brick

Bricks that are covered in old paint and splattered float mud from a storm can make a building appear disheveled and unsightly. Professional painters can remove old paint and mud, but hiring a professional is costly and may not fit into your budget. Save money by making your brick walls look new again yourself using a few inexpensive tools and supplies that are found at any hardware or home improvement store, such as a pressure washer.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a pressure washer with brick wash liquid, and spray the surface of the bricks using the pressure washer on medium-high. The power of the soapy water will scour the bricks, removing mud and peeling paint.

    • 2

Soak a 6-inch wide paintbrush with paint thinner, then paint the thinner over the surface of the bricks. This will soften and dissolve the paint on the bricks.

    • 3

Fill a 10 gallon bucket with hot water, 2 cups of brick wash and 1/2 cup of oil soap. Stir the mixture for two minutes with a paint stick to combine the ingredients completely.

    • 4

Insert a wire brush into the soapy water, then scrub the brush over the surface of the bricks in small, circular motions. This will remove the loosened paint from the bricks.

    • 5

Spray the bricks with the pressure washer set to low to wash away any residual cleaner.
