1. Gather your tools and materials. You will need:
- Steel baseboard heater covers
- A tape measure
- A pencil
- A hacksaw
- A file
- Safety glasses
2. Measure the length of the heater. Add 1/4-inch to this measurement for the cutting allowance.
3. Mark the cutting line on the heater cover. Use the pencil to mark a straight line across the heater cover at the desired length.
4. Secure the heater cover. Clamp the heater cover to a workbench or table so that the cutting line is facing up.
5. Cut the heater cover. Use the hacksaw to cut along the cutting line. Be sure to use slow, even strokes.
6. File the cut edge. Use the file to smooth out any rough edges on the cut edge.
7. Repeat steps 2-6 for any additional heater covers that need to be cut.
Tips:
- Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from flying debris.
- Use a sharp hacksaw blade to make smooth cuts.
- File the cut edge carefully to avoid sharp points.
