How to Keep a Wooden Bed From Squeaking

A wooden bed is an excellent element in a home decorated in a rustic style or with a country motif, but it can be a troublesome surface to sleep on. Wood shrinks and swells according to the humidity in the room; over time, the bed frame may start to squeak every time the sleeper shifts or rolls over. Loud squeaking can make even a heavy sleeper wake up, so take the time to fix these squeaks as soon as you hear them.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove both the mattress and the box spring from the bed frame.

    • 2

Remove one screw from the wooden frame using a screwdriver.

    • 3

Inspect the screw to ensure that it is not stripped. If the screw is stripped, replace it with a screw of identical size.

    • 4

Rub the threading of the screw on a bar of soap, ensuring that soap residue remains in the threads.

    • 5

Insert the screw back into the wooden frame using a screwdriver.

    • 6

Replace the screw in the bed frame using a screwdriver, taking care to ensure that the screw is inside the wood tightly.

    • 7

Repeat steps 2 through 6 for all the screws on the bed.

    • 8

Place the box spring and mattress back on the wood frame.
