How to Change a Halogen Lamp Stand

Halogen lamps are a versatile tool to have in your home workshop or garage. These lamps provide bright lighting that can serve as a work light for tasks ranging from mechanical repairs to woodworking tool task lighting. Over time, the stand on these lamps can become damaged. You can change the stand instead of replacing the entire lamp. Halogen lamps are bolted to the stand in the center of each side of the lamp. In some cases the lamps might be bolted to the stand in the center of the bottom of the lamp.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the halogen lamp stand on a work surface. Look over the lamp stand and identify the bolts that secure the lamp to the stand.

    • 2

Adjust the adjustable wrench so it fits securely over the nuts on the end of the fastening bolts. Place the wrench on each nut, one at a time.

    • 3

Insert the tip of the screwdriver into the heads of the bolts. Firmly hold the nuts with the adjustable wrench while you turn the screwdriver in a counterclockwise motion to unscrew the bolts from the nuts.

    • 4

Slide the nuts and washers from the end of the bolt. Remove the bolts. Lift the lamp carefully out from between the lamp stand uprights.

    • 5

Place the replacement lamp stand on the work surface. Lower the lamp between the lamp stand uprights and place it so the mounting holes in the lamp align with the mounting holes in the stand.

    • 6

Slide the bolts through the mounting holes and slide the washers over the ends of the bolts. Hand-tighten the nuts onto the ends of the bolts.

    • 7

Insert the tip of the screwdriver into the heads of the bolts. Firmly hold the nuts with the adjustable wrench while you turn the screwdriver clockwise to tightly fasten the lamp to the stand.
