How to Read Your Georgia Natural Gas Meter

When your natural gas bills start to look like the national deficient, it may be necessary to determine your daily or monthly natural gas usage. Reading your Georgia Natural Gas meter is a convenient way to calculate how much gas usage is the norm for your family. Because Georgia Natural Gas provides service through Atlanta Gas Light due to a deregulation requirement that took effect in July 1998, learning to read your meter will benefit you regardless of what natural gas company you use.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate your meter. The meter is usually on the outside of a home or the wall of a home. Some meters are stand-alone models and may be posted in the front section of a home's yard.

    • 2

Read the dial numbers. Start with the dial on the far left, and then read the dial just to its right, continuing to the right until you read all of the dials. If a dial's arrow points between two numbers, use the smaller number. For example, if the arrow rests between 2 and 3, then use 2 as the reading for that dial. Do this for all the dials.

    • 3

Write down the number from each dial. Each dial represents a usage number or a number in the usage total. The result is your meter reading.
