Method 1: Heat
1. Pour your beer into a saucepan. It's also possible to use a kettle or another heat-safe container.
- This method works best for small amounts of beer. If you're trying to remove the carbonation from a large quantity of beer (such as a keg), you may need to use a different method (see Method 2 below).
2. Bring the beer to a simmer over medium heat. Do not boil the beer.
- You'll know that the beer is simmering when you see small bubbles forming around the edges of the pan.
3. Stir the beer occasionally. This will help to prevent it from scorching.
4. Reduce the heat to low and let the beer simmer for 3-4 minutes. This will be enough time for the carbonation to escape from the beer.
5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes. This will allow the beer to cool down before you drink it.
Method 2: Cooling
1. Place your beer in the freezer.
- For this method, you will need to leave the beer in the freezer for a longer amount of time (6-12 hours, or overnight).
- After you've left the beer in the freezer for a few hours, take it out and let it sit for a few minutes to allow some of the ice crystals to melt.
- This will help to reduce the amount of foam that forms when you open the beer.
- The amount of time it will take to de-carbonate your beer will vary depending on the size of the bottle and the temperature of the freezer.
2. Open the beer and let the carbonation escape.
- If there's any remaining ice left, be careful not to spill the beer when you open the bottle.
3. Let the beer sit for a few minutes before drinking.
- This will give the beer a chance to warm up and reach a more comfortable temperature.
Method 3: Baking Soda
1. Add 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda to your beer.
- The baking soda will react with the carbonic acid in the beer and release carbon dioxide gas.
- This gas will escape from the beer, leaving it flat.
- This method might give your beer a slight metallic flavor.
2. Stir the beer until the baking soda has dissolved completely.
- It's important to make sure that the baking soda is completely dissolved, as undissolved baking soda can leave a gritty texture in your beer.
3. Drink your beer immediately.
- Once you've removed the carbonation from the beer, it will start to go flat very quickly.
- For the best results, drink the beer within a few minutes of adding the baking soda.
