How to Make Vinyl Stick Permanently

Vinyl has a smooth and non-porous surface that makes it tricky to attach it permanently to vinyl or any other surface. For porous surfaces, glue settles in the surface's nooks and crannies to get a better hold on the item. Vinyl's relatively non-porous surface makes it necessary to use very strong glue such as epoxy glue to adhere vinyl to another piece of vinyl or other surface.

Things You'll Need

  • Vinyl permanent glue
  • Acetone

Instructions

    • 1

      Soak a cloth in acetone.

    • 2

Rub the cloth over the vinyl to clean it completely. Cleaning the vinyl will help create a permanent bond.

    • 3

Apply the glue to the vinyl.

    • 4

Press the vinyl into the area where you want to attach it.

    • 5

Clamp the item and let it sit for at least 24 hours or as directed by the manufacturer. If the vinyl is small you can simply use masking tape to bond the pieces together. Vinyl glue takes longer to cure than other types of permanent glue.

      Remove the clamp.
