How to Install Carpet with an Attached Pad on a Concrete Floor

Walk around the concrete floor and locate any nails, screws or tack strips that are still embedded in it from old carpeting. Remove these items using a pair of pliers. Then sweep the floor thoroughly to remove all dust and debris.

Vacuum the entire concrete floor to ensure no dust remains. Use the hose attachment to clean around the edge of the floor where dust is often trapped.

Walk to one corner of the room and place the end of a roll of double-sided carpet tape on the floor 1/4 inch from the wall. Unroll the tape around the perimeter of the room until you reach the starting location, and then cut the excess off with a utility knife.

Place additional 12-inch-wide "X" marks of tape in the center of the room every 4 feet. Leave all of the protective backing on the tape for now.

Unroll the padded carpet in the room, centering it so there is 3 inches of excess on all sides. Once positioned, fold one side of the carpet back by half.

Peel off all of the protective backing from the pieces of tape and throw them away. Fold the carpet back into position. Walk to the center of the room and smooth the carpet out using your hands until you reach the wall.

Fold the loose side of the carpet back by half and remove the tape backing. Lay the carpet back down and smooth it out using your hands just as you did before.

Push the edges of the padded carpet into the crease along the edge of the room using a hook bill knife. Then insert a carpet wall trimmer tool into the crease and push it around the perimeter of the floor to trim off the excess carpet.

Walk along the edge of the room to further secure the padded carpet to the tape.
