Travertine is a type of limestone that is popularly used as kitchen and bathroom flooring. Even with proper care and maintenance, a travertine floor will become dull over time. When this happens, crystallizing the surface of the tiles with a special wax can restore the shine. Applying an enamel floor wax containing fluorosilicate with a steel wool pad can heat up the surface of the stone and chemically alter the surface, making it shiny. However, crystallizing the surface will not erase deep scratches and other wear.

Starting in one corner of the room, rub the wax vigorously into a section of the travertine floor until the surface is shiny. Move on to another section of the floor, adding more wax to the pad as necessary. Repeat until the entire floor shines. Do not walk on the floor for two hours afterwards to give the wax time to set.
