How to Prevent Laminate Floor Damage From Furniture

Laminate floors are known for their durability and ease of maintenance. Because of this, they are popular with both pet owners and parents of small children. If you have invested in laminate flooring, you may be worried that damage to the floor may occur from furniture placement. While furniture damage is a valid concern for laminate flooring, basic preventive measures will allow you to keep your laminate floor in top shape for many years.

Things You'll Need

  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Paper towel
  • Self-adhesive felt floor protectors (number and size to match feet of furniture)

    • 1

      Tip the first piece of furniture to a 45-degree angle or the angle needed for easy access to the bottom of the front legs.

      Wipe the bottom of each furniture leg, using a paper towel moistened with rubbing alcohol, taking care to remove all traces of dust, dirt and polish residue.

      Peel the protective paper backing from a felt furniture protector and discard the paper.

      Apply the protector to the bottom of the furniture leg, taking care to cover the entire bottom.

      Trim away any excess felt that projects outside the bottom of the furniture leg, using a pair of scissors.

      Repeat Steps 3 to 5 for any remaining front legs.

      Stand the piece of furniture upright, then tip it in the opposite direction.

      Repeat the process with the back feet of the furniture piece and all other furniture in the room.
