Cut a piece of foam pipe insulation to fit over each of the pipes leading to your sump pump.
Cut the pipe insulation lengthwise so that it opens up to fit around the pipe. Run a utility knife halfway into the insulation
Wrap the insulation around the pipes. Place the insulation between the pipe and any walls or metal that it can rub against during operation. This will reduce a large amount of noise.
Remove the sump pump cover by lifting it off the sump pump. Drill a hole on top of the pump cover.
Place the cover in place on top of the pump.
Hold a can of spray insulation down at the hole and fill the hole with insulation.
Cut a section of the pipe that leads away from the pump to the discharge, which is generally outside the home. Use a hacksaw to cut a section the size of the valve.
Sand down the edges using a metal file until the edges are smooth.
Wipe away any excess dust or debris with a dry cloth.
Apply a layer of PVC cement around the outside edge of the pipe. Place pipe couplings on the cut edges of the pipe and twist so they will bond into place. Allow the cement to dry for approximately 30 minutes.
Line the valve up with the couplings and screw the couplings onto the valve. Use pliers to tighten the couplings to prevent any leaks.
