How to Repair a Wacker Roller Compactor

Laying your own asphalt driveway or road is a job you may never have to do. However, a roller compactor is an invaluable tool if you do. The Wacker Roller Compactor is a walk-behind compaction tool manufactured by Wacker Neuson. The compactor is used to first flatten and smooth the dirt on which the asphalt will be poured. This process helps eliminate buckles and other imperfections in the asphalt once it is poured. After the asphalt is poured and semi-dried, the compactor helps to smooth it. Troubleshooting and repairing the Wacker Roller Compactor will take between 30 minutes to two hours.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the gas cap on the Wacker Roller Compactor and make sure there is fuel in the tank. Add fuel to the compactor if it is empty.

    • 2

Remove the engine cover bolts with an adjustable wrench and then lift the cover off and set it aside to access the engine.

    • 3

Test the battery of the compactor with a digital multimeter. Set the meter to the voltage setting and place the positive and negative test leads to the respective battery terminals. If the battery voltage is below 12 volts, the battery should be changed. Loosen and remove the negative and positive cables with an adjustable wrench and then lift the old battery out. Set the new battery in place, replace the cables and then tighten them with the wrench.

Slip the end of the screwdriver into the air filter cover screw and turn it to the left to remove it. Set the screw aside and lift up on the air filter cover. Examine the air filter and replace it with a new one if it is corroded. Replace the cover and screw after checking or replacing the filter.

Remove the spark plug wire and take the plug out with a plug wrench. Insert a new spark plug, screw it in and tighten it with the plug wrench. Replace the spark plug wire.

Place the engine cover back in place once all repairs have been made and tighten the retaining bolt with the wrench.
