How to Cord Swedish Blinds

Swedish blinds make a great do-it-yourself project because their simple construction requires little sewing and hardware to put together. Once you have your Swedish blinds constructed they are just as easy to cord. One long cord wraps around the body of the Swedish blinds and makes them easy to roll up and down. A pair of scissors is the only tool you will need to get the job done.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the Swedish blinds flat on the table.

    • 2

Form a small loop at the end of the cord and secure it with a knot. Tape that knot to the back of the batten at the top of the Swedish blinds, just behind the left strip of webbing. When you nail the Swedish blinds to the wall, hammer the nail through the loop. This will secure the cord once the Swedish blinds are mounted.

    • 3

Extend the cord down the back of the Swedish blinds around the bottom of the blinds and up the front panel to meet the ring at the end of the webbing on the left side of the batting. The cord should touch the bottom of the Swedish blinds, but do not pull it tight.

    • 4

Bring the cord up the back side of the ring then thread it forward through the ring. Wrap the cord around the back of the ring and out through the front again.

    • 5

Bring the cord over to the right side of the Swedish blinds. Run it under the back side of the right ring and out through the loop. Wrap it under and thread it through again.

    • 6

Pull the middle of the cord between the two rings down with your finger until it hangs roughly 1/2-inch below the bottom of the rings.

    • 7

Extend the length of the cord three-quarters of the way down the length of the Swedish blinds. Hold that point steady with your finger. Bring the cord back up to the bottom of the ring. Tie a double-knot around the top of the extended cord.

    • 8

Thread the length of the cord back behind and through the ring. Then thread it behind and through the ring again.

    • 9

Run the length of the cord down the front of the Swedish blinds, over the bottom and up the back.

    • 10

Extend the length of the cord all the way to the top batten. Tie a looped knot in the cord and tape the loop to the back of the batten just behind the webbing strip.

    • 11

      Cut off the excess cord.
