How to Make a Large Pot Holder Hot Pad

### Materials

- 2 (10 inch) squares heat resistant fabric (cotton, denim, or canvas)

- 2 layer (10 inch) batting

- Thread

- Scissors

- Sewing machine or hand sewing needle

- Iron

Instructions

1. Cut the fabric and batting.

- From each piece of heat resistant fabric, cut two (10 inch) squares. If you would like a larger pot holder cut larger squares.

- From the batting, cut two (10 inch) squares.

2. Sew the fabric pieces together.

- With right sides together, sew one piece of heat resistant fabric to one piece of batting, using a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Repeat with the remaining fabric and batting pieces.

3. Turn the pot holder right side out.

- Carefully turn the pot holder right side out, using a point turner or other blunt object to help push out the corners.

4. Iron the pot holder.

- Iron the pot holder flat, making sure to press the seams open.

5. Stitch around the edge of the pot holder

- Stitch around the edge of the pot holder, close to the edge. This will help to secure the layers together and prevent the pot holder from fraying.

6. Add a hanging loop (optional).

- If desired, add a hanging loop to the pot holder. To do this, cut a (5-6 inch) strip of fabric and fold it in half lengthwise. Sew the folded edge to the top center of the pot holder, and then sew the remaining edges of the strip together.

Your Large Pot Holder Hot Pad is now complete!

Tips

- Use a walking foot on your sewing machine to help prevent the fabric from shifting while sewing.

- Backstitch at the beginning and end of each seam to secure the stitches.

- If you don't have a sewing machine, you can also hand sew the pot holder together.

- For added insulation, you can add a layer of Insul-Bright or other heat-resistant batting between the layers of fabric.
