How to Clean Lalique Crystal

Lalique crystal, a specific type of glassware named for its creator, Renee Lalique, is an art nouveau style of cut glass or crystal in shapes of animals or flowers. Sea horses and starfish, for example, come in clear, blue, green or amber-tinted crystal. Because lalique is of such high quality, it is considered valuable. Cleaning the crystal glassware requires a light touch and caution when choosing cleaning agents.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the lalique crystal glassware with a mild soap and water detergent. Fill a sink with warm water and add 2 tablespoons of any mild dishwashing detergent. Submerge the glassware into the soapy water and allow it to soak for approximately five minutes. Using a sponge, gently clean the glassware. As an added precaution against chipping, place a dishtowel on the bottom of the sink. Rinse the glassware with warm water and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.

Clean lalique glassware with white vinegar. Fill the sink with warm water and add 1 cup of white vinegar to the water. Soak the glassware in the solution for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water and dry thoroughly. This method is particularly useful if the glass is cloudy or has mineral deposits on it.

Spot-clean lalique crystal with lemon juice. Because lemon juice is more acidic than diluted white vinegar, apply the lemon juice only to areas most affected by mineral deposits. Dab the lemon juice onto the glassware with a soft cloth. Allow it to sit for five minutes, then wash with a mild dish detergent. After rinsing with warm water, dry the glassware completely before storing.
