How to Make Lime-Colored Paint

To successfully mix a color such as lime green, which lies between primary and secondary colors on the color wheel, you must plan first and mix second. While basic green is obtained by mixing equal parts yellow and blue, lime green is more yellow than green. To achieve the right shade, you will need to mix your base green in the amount that you need, then adjust the color to obtain the shade you desire.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Pour yellow paint into a bowl or tray for mixing. You should pour in about one-half the total amount of paint you will need. The other half of the paint you need will be made up of other colors.

    • 2

Pour into the bowl or tray an amount of blue paint equal to the yellow paint you have already poured. For example, if you began with a quart of yellow paint you will need to add a quart of blue paint. Stir these colors thoroughly using a stir stick, spoon, or similar tool. You should now have paint in a grass-green color.

Add additional yellow paint to the existing paint mixture, a little at a time, until the paint is the correct variant of lime green.

    • 4

Adjust the shade, if necessary. If the color is correct but the paint is too dark, add white paint to lighten the shade. If the color is correct but the paint is too light, add black paint to darken the shade. Whatever color you are adding, add only a little at a time.
