How to Make a Chandelier Attached to a Fan

You can convert a ceiling fan into a sparkly chandelier with a framework created from a recycled lampshade. Beaded trim, found at fabric supply stores, adds glamor to the chandelier and is purchased by the yard. By painting the ceiling above the fan the same color as the fan blades, the fan will blend into the ceiling, emphasizing the chandelier. This chandelier is perfect for a bedroom, in a hallway or over the dining room table.

Ceiling fan with dome light
Screwdriver
Lampshade
Scissors
Tape measure
2 yards 6-inch beaded trim
Hot glue gun
1 foot 24-gauge wire

Instructions

  Remove the dome light cover from the ceiling fan by unscrewing the attachment screws. Rescrew in the attachment screws, leaving them 1/8 inch unscrewed.

  Remove all fabric from the lampshade with the scissors, leaving the wire frame bare.

  Measure the circumference around each wire circle of the lampshade with the tape measure. Cut the beaded trim to the circle measurements with the scissors.

  Attach the top edge of the beaded trim to each circle with the hot glue gun, moving slowly, 1 inch at a time.

  Cut the 24-gauge wire in half, creating two 6-inch sections of wire. Attach one end of one section of wire around the top lampshade circle by twisting the wire securely. Attach the other section of wire to the circle on the opposite side, evenly spaced.

  Twist the free ends of the wire sections around the attachment screws on the ceiling fan.
