Place stools on one or both sides of the kitchen bar. If only one side of the bar features an overhang, place the stools on this side. If both sides have an overhang, arrange stools on both sides, providing seating for the kitchen and the room the kitchen opens up to.
Feature decorative elements on the bar that tie into the decor of the rest of the floor plan. For example, if the kitchen features stainless steel appliances, set stainless steel bowls along the top of the bar. If the room opposite the kitchen includes wrought iron accents, place wrought iron elements, salt and pepper shakers and candlesticks, for example, on the bar.
Arrange the elements so that they can add visual appeal to both the kitchen and the room the kitchen opens up to. Bowls, baskets, canisters and other rounded elements that don't have a definite back can be arranged in any position, as they will look similar when viewed from either side of the bar. If you're incorporating pictures on the bar, for example, arrange them so that some face the kitchen and some face the room that the kitchen opens up to, making a visually appealing display for both spaces.
