How to Make a Headboard With Canvas and Material

While some people simply view a headboard as a piece of wood, wrought iron or other material that juts out from one end of a bed as a convenient place to rest your back upon, others view it as much more. To some, a headboard is like a blank canvas or a bold opportunity for creative expression. There's no reason why you have to rely on professional designers and home furnishing stores to make a headboard that allows you to indulge in such creative expression. Rather, you can do it yourself with canvas and other materials.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay a sheet of batting face down on your work surface. Cut eight pieces of batting that are 18 inches by 22 inches.

    • 2

Wrap a piece of batting around the front of each canvas, yanking it backward so the batting is taut. Flip each canvas over and staple the batting to the back of the canvas's frame with a staple gun.

    • 3

Cut eight pieces of the fabric of your choice to 18 inches by 22 inches. Fabrics like faux suede, velvet, flannel, cotton and other soft fabrics are wise choices.

Lay each piece of fabric facedown on your work surface. Place each canvas face down on top of the fabric. Yank the fabric around the canvas, stapling it to the back frame of the canvas by inserting staples every few inches.

Hang the canvases above your bed with a hammer and nails, making two rows of four, directly on top of each other.
