How to Hide a TV in a Kitchen Design

Having a television in the kitchen can be helpful for making uninteresting tasks like washing dishes or prepping for a meal more interesting, or it can provide entertainment for a large family or guests before meals. However, depending on your kitchen, a television set in plain view may not be aesthetically pleasing. While it may not be possible to completely hide your television in all circumstances, there are things you can do to make it look more natural--and even enhance the overall look of your kitchen.

Instructions

    • 1

Hang the television under a cabinet in a corner that is not visible from all angles of the room. For example, if your kitchen has an open doorway, hang the television under a cabinet that is not visible from another room.

    • 2

Place the television in a kitchen cabinet not being used for dishes or cookware. If you intend to place the television in a cabinet, you will need to run the cabling in the wall, which will need to be done by a qualified electrician or general contractor.

    • 3

Put your television in an inconspicuous place, like above a group of built-in appliances. While you may not be able to fully conceal the television, it will not be apparent to the eye and will appear more attractive.

    • 4

Purchase a television that presents a picture background when it is turned off. Many television manufacturers make televisions that show a piece of art or other image when the television is off. The frame of the television will look like a picture frame instead of the outside of a television.

Use complimentary colors in the kitchen to hide the television. If your television is placed in a nook and has a silver frame, consider painting the nook a similar silver color to camouflage the television.

Consider building the television into a backsplash or above an island or countertop that you work at regularly in the kitchen. If possible, try to keep the television easy to see from different angles in the kitchen.
