How to Make Stuffing the Day Before

Making stuffing ahead of time is a great way to save time and still enjoy delicious, homemade stuffing on your Thanksgiving table.

Here's how to make stuffing the day before:

1. Gather ingredients. Here's a basic list of ingredients for stuffing:

- Bread (such as white, wheat, or cornbread)

- Diced celery

- Diced onion

- Diced carrots

- Fresh herbs (such as sage, thyme, and rosemary)

- Salt and pepper

- Butter

- Chicken or vegetable stock

- Egg (optional)

2. Prepare the bread.

- Cut the bread into 1-inch cubes and place them in a large bowl.

- Drizzle the bread cubes with melted butter and toss to coat.

- Set the bread cubes aside to dry out for at least 30 minutes.

3. Sauté the vegetables.

- In a large skillet, heat some butter or oil over medium heat.

- Add the diced celery, onion, and carrots and cook until they are softened about 5 minutes.

4. Mix the ingredients.

- Add the sautéed vegetables, herbs, salt, and pepper to the bowl of bread cubes.

- Toss everything to combine.

- Add the chicken or vegetable stock and egg (if using) and mix until the stuffing is well-moistened.

- Pour the stuffing into a greased baking dish.

5. Cover and refrigerate.

- Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate the stuffing for at least 8 hours or overnight.

- This will give the flavors time to meld.

6. Bake on the day of:

- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

- Remove the stuffing from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature for 30 minutes.

- Bake the stuffing in the preheated oven for 40-50 minutes, or until it is heated and the top is golden brown.

7. Enjoy!
