* Fabric: 1/2 yard of a sturdy cotton or canvas fabric
* Lining fabric: 1/4 yard of a soft cotton fabric
* Interfacing: 1/2 yard of lightweight fusible interfacing
* Foam insulation: 1/4 yard of 1/4-inch-thick foam insulation
* 1/2-inch elastic
* Sewing thread
* Fabric scissors
* Pinking shears
* Sewing machine
* Iron
* Presser foot: Walking foot or teflon foot
* Fabric marking pen
* Cut out two slipper soles from the foam insulation. Use the pattern piece or trace around a pair of shoes that fit you well.
* Cut out four slipper uppers from the fabric and interfacing. Use the pattern piece or trace around a slipper sole, adding 1/4 inch around all edges for seam allowances.
* Cut out four slipper linings from the lining fabric. Use the same pattern piece as you used for the uppers.
* With right sides together, sew the two upper pieces together around the curved edge of the toe, using a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Backstitch at the beginning and end of the seam.
* Trim the seam allowance to 1/4 inch and pink the edges.
* Turn the upper right side out and press flat.
* Center the interfacing on the wrong side of the upper and fuse it in place. Follow the instructions on the interfacing package.
* Cut the elastic into two pieces, each 12 inches long.
* Pin the elastic to the inside of the upper, 1/4 inch from the top edge and 1 inch from the side edges.
* Sew the elastic in place using a zig-zag stitch.
* With right sides together, sew the lining to the upper around the top and side edges, using a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Leave the bottom edge of the lining open.
* Trim the seam allowance to 1/4 inch and pink the edges.
* Turn the slipper right side out and press flat.
* Fold the foam insole in half lengthwise and insert it into the slipper, foam side down.
* Fold the lining over the top of the insole and sew it in place by hand.
* Top stitch around the top of the slippers, close to the edge.
* Add any desired embellishments, such as buttons or trim.
* Enjoy your new slippers!
