How to Cut Floral Foam for Flower Arrangements

Step 1: Gather Your Materials:

1. Floral foam.

2. Sharp knife, preferably with a long blade.

3. Cutting board.

4. Ruler or tape measure.

Step 2: Prepare the Foam:

1. Take a block of floral foam and allow it to soak in water for several minutes until it absorbs water and becomes saturated.

2. Let it drain any excess water.

Step 3: Measure the Container:

1. Using your ruler or tape measure, determine the dimensions of the container you plan to place your floral arrangement in.

Step 4: Cutting:

1. Place the floral foam on a cutting board.

2. Measure and mark the desired length and width of the foam using a ruler or tape measure.

3. Gently press down the knife at the marked lines and begin slicing through the foam with sawing motions. Repeat the process until the foam is cut into the desired shape.

4. For rounded corners or curved floral foam pieces, use the knife to shape the foam accordingly.

Step 5: Finishing Touches:

1. Smooth out any rough edges of the foam by gently sanding them with a piece of sandpaper.

Step 6: Insert into Container:

1. Carefully insert the cut floral foam into the container.

2. If necessary, trim any additional parts that may need further adjustments to fit the container.

Step 7: Stabilize:

1. For added stability, use floral pins to secure the foam in place, especially if you plan on placing heavier stems in the arrangement.

Tip: Make sure to use a sharp knife for a clean cut. A dull knife may cause the foam to tear or break.
